Welcome to The Griffin Hotel, a historic coaching Inn located in the heart of East Anglia.
Hospitality has been dispensed at The Griffin for the last 450 years.
For these of you interested in the history - The doors opened for the first time in about 1560 during the early reign of Queen Elizabeth I, in the part of the building fronting Church Street. It was extended in the 17th and 18th centuries with a frontage onto the churchyard.
The Griffin was designed as a coaching inn, one feature being wooden cobbles in the archway to muffle the horses` hooves, so as not to disturb the guests sleeping upstairs! Although guests no longer normally arrive by coach and horses, the Griffin continues to provide for all the needs of a weary traveller - a warm welcome, reviving drinks in the bar, a hearty meal in the restaurant and a comfortable bed for the night.
The Griffin remains at the heart of the community`s activities, providing everything from morning coffee and biscuits to fine à la carte meals. The facilities have been enhanced by the addition of a garden through the arch, in the lee of an ancient flint wall and with an overhanging chestnut tree. It is both a suntrap and a quiet haven in the centre of the bustling town.
Our central location, good road and rail links and extensive local attractions make the Griffin the perfect destination for a short holiday break, a midweek business stopover or as a team base for racing and track days at Snetterton race circuit.
The Griffin has a range of six refurbished bedrooms tastefully designed to retain many period features of our Elizabethan coaching inn whilst incorporating the latest ensuite facilities. Whether it`s a midweek business stopover in one of our singles or a weekend treat in our unique four-poster bedroom, there is a room to meet your tastes and budget.
