The Hopetoun Arms hotel is a grade two listed building and is the highest residential hotel in Scotland, sitting 1297ft above sea level. Nestled in the heart of the Lowther Hills it is in a quiet rural location. A perfect stop off point if travelling north or south, and a perfect place for a nice relaxing break. The Hopetoun itself is steeped in history with mentions from Dorothy Wordsworth in her book "The Grand Tour of Scotland" published in 1804.
The village itself has a heritage trail which will have you visit such delights as, John Taylors Grave, who died in 1770 at the remarkable age of 137 and The Curfew Bell which was rung to inform the miners of their shift changes.
Although we are in a rural setting, we are only forty five minutes from Glasgow and just over one hour to Edinburgh and Carlisle.
The village has the oldest subscription library in the UK which is open to visitors and the highest golf course in Scotland, situated just behind the hotel.
