Walk through the entrance of our magnificent brick and stucco Italianate hotel and you’re following in the footsteps of some extraordinary guests. Since opening in 1860 to serve first-class rail passengers, we’ve entertained the likes of Charles Dickens, Cecil Rhodes and Lillie Langtry. We’re a hotel of many firsts. We’re the original railway hotel, the first of our kind built to service the many rail travellers to the city. With no other blueprints upon which to base the hotels’ design, our architecture was unique, many say the first skyscraper of its time and students from across the world still visit just to marvel at our structure and design.
Over 150 years of fascinating history and stories to enjoy on your stay.We are adjacent to Chester train station, a short 10 minute walk to the main shops and boutiques. Built in the 1850s, in homage to Queen Victoria, our award-winning hotel was the country’s first grand railway hotel and was once considered as the world’s first ever sky scraper.
Along with a seriously good night’s sleep, we offer seriously good award-winning food. Kings` Grill Chef alchemizes fine locally sourced ingredients into a seasonal modern British menu that has earned two AA Rosettes.
Excellent dining isn’t our only accolade. We picked up the gong for Chester and Cheshire Excellence in Business Tourism: recognition of our stellar reputation for hosting meetings, training and conferences. And the same formula of beautiful versatile function rooms and banqueting suites, alongside experienced dedicated event planners, also makes us a favourite choice for hosting weddings and private celebrations.
Leave the M53 at A56 junction. Go straight on at Hoole roundabout, turn left at the main traffic lights heading for Chester Railway Station. Straight across at mini roundabout facing station for the hotel car park. The hotel is directly across from the railway station. if approcahing from any other route, just follow the signs for Chester Railway Station. - See more at: http://www.hallmarkhotels.co.uk/hotels/Chester-The-Queen/map-and-directions#sthash.Y58k6u21.dpuf
Wining and Dining
At Hallmark Hotel Chester The Queen we appreciate that diners in this city aren’t short of excellent eating options. So we’re absolutely delighted so many chose to eat in our stylish contemporary Kings' Grill. And they’re not the only ones to give it a resounding thumbs up. Based on the finest seasonal ingredients, the modern British menu of our chef, Alan Davies, has been awarded two AA rosettes.
Using locally sourced produce where possible, his dishes include Somersby cider braised belly pork, hot smoked sea trout with juniper berry ashes and butternut squash emulsion, and several cuts of premium quality 21-day aged beef selected by Williams Butchers of Flint. Eat your heart out Masterchef.
We’ve also got a fantastic range of lighter bites in our Waiting Room bar and lounge – a nod to our heritage as a hotel for first class Victorian rail passengers – and we can’t ignore an opportunity to mention our adored 103-item breakfast. It has to be seen to be believed.
Talking of generous service, our lounge boasts the longest list of cocktails in the city. It’s your call but we’d like to recommend the Queenopolitan’s premium gin blended with Dubonnet, cranberry juice and lime.
Finally, last but definitely not least, try our Chester institution: high tea by the fireside in the Albert Lounge. We’ve been serving it for 150 years and counting, and trust us; the scones are not to be missed!
