Welcome to The Portland Hotel, a small family run hotel located in the harbour village of Lybster made famous during the filming of Netflix hit The Crown.
Sitting perfectly on the North Coast 500 route at the Quatre Bras crossroad the hotel is ideally placed being just a short drive from Wick, John O’ Groats, Thurso and the perfect destination for an overnight stay when catching the early ferry to Orkney and further afield to Shetland.
The hotel holds a unique history and is known for its award winning locally sourced food, hearty portions with comfortable, individually styled rooms and friendly staff.
In the summer of 2018, The Portland Hotel reopened under new ownership bringing a new lease of life to the village of Lybster. Built in 1851 and the premier venue in Caithness for weddings and other functions, the historic building had fallen into disrepair and was sorely missed. Following a sympathetic renovation which ensured its historic character was retained, we are pleased to now have the doors open and welcome guests to our family run Portland Hotel. Located on the North Coast 500 route we are perfectly placed for visitors to John o’ Groats.
Our award winning Restaurant is open seven days a week to both residents and non residents. It is open from 5pm with last orders in the restaurant being taken at 8:30pm. Other times throughout the day are available for larger groups by prior arrangement.
Our helpful, friendly staff are always on hand to ensure that you have the best possible dining experience at The Portland Hotel. Our Chefs provide a menu with many Scottish classics which are constantly being updated and adapted. They take pride in using the best possible locally sourced produce with some of our Fish actually being smoked onsite and a range of items being grow in our own small herb garden.
