Rooms from 50.00 GBP | The Ramada Cromwell Stevenage is one of the only Ramada Hotels to have kept its original name, the local interest in keeping the "Cromwell" part in the name was very high. The hotel is so named as it was originally a 16th Century Farmhouse reputedly given by Oliver Cromwell to his secretary Thomas Thurloe. There are still traces of this hotels beginnings, with the original flagstones and wall decoration which has been relocated inside the hotel, there are also 2 original fireplaces. Since the location of this building was on the former A1 or great South to North road, the building was converted into a hostelry and was a coaching inn for many years. Some parts of the building were used in an episode of "The Saint" back in the early 1960's. The Hotel has changed name several times in its history, but the "Cromwell" part has remained and is referred as such by local people.
The hotel has kept its original charm with beams, ornamental wood decoration and fireplaces, but has added the best that modern facilities can provide. A flat screen TV in each bedroom, along with trouser press, tea and coffee facilities and a selection of room styles including double, single, four poster and twin rooms. There are also a couple of family and disabled rooms available at the hotel.
The restaurant, bar and conference facilities have also kept up with this trend, there are the traditional founding's for these areas, however a modern twist has been tastefully added to meet the needs of our guests.
The large self contained banqueting suite to the rear of the hotel means that a function being held in the hotel has no need for hotel guests to be in their way, own entrance, toilets bar and dance floor means that this room is ideal for Weddings, private functions and Christmas parties. |
