Ralph Bell, Esquire, paid the sum of £6,300 for the Manor of Thirsk, the Deed of Conveyance being dated 27th April 1723.
In 1740 the house was adapted to a coaching inn, being on the Leeds-Edinburgh coach run. The London, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds and Darlington coaches all used the Three Tuns Hotel, and one of the stables still exists in original condition, complete with mangers, stalls and hay loft. |
