This magnificent Victorian hotel, named the Queen's, opened for business in 1856 to accommodate visitors to the fabled Crystal Palace. The astonishing glass and steel structure was moved piece by piece from Hyde Park, where it had housed the Great Exhibition of 1852, to a site just 700 yards from our front door on the top of Sydenham Hill where it could be seen for miles around. After hosting the great and the good for more that 150 years, the hotel has been renamed, refurbished and re-launched. Today you can still see for miles across London and the Southern counties from the Roof Top Restaurant. |
