Rooms from 88.00 GBP | A Warm Welcome to Lowfell
Bed and Breakfast in Bowness on Windermere
We very much hope that we might have the pleasure of welcoming you to Lowfell - a lovely old lakeland stone country house offering luxury bed and breakfast accommodation in Bowness on Windermere in the heart of the English Lake District, and only a few minutes stroll from the village and the shores of Lake Windermere.
Our location is ideal for walking, cycling, sailing, sampling great restaurants, bistros and pubs, or simply exploring pretty lakeland villages and enjoying spectacular scenery - all with or without your car.
About Low Fell Bed and Breakfast
Bowness on Windermere
Originally built in 1905 as a gentleman's residence, Lowfell is a lovely old Lakeland stone house nestling peacefully behind a high wall in an acre of sunny secluded garden, facing south and west towards the lake and the distant fells.
Pretty Bowness on Windermere (the only village in the lake district actually on a lakeshore) is only a 6 minute stroll away, and bustles with things to do, super shops, and a really good selection of very nice pubs and bistros to suit all tastes - if they wish, guests can eat out every night for the duration of their stay, and never have the need to drive! There's even a small theatre and a rather cute old fashioned 3-screen cinema.
Lowfell is also just an easy 5-minute walk from the shores of Lake Windermere, where boats of all kinds, and the car ferry, ply the lake.
This splendid old house has been our family home for twenty one years (family long flown the nest!) and still, we like to think, exudes the welcome, charm, fun and values of a happy home - with the style, comfort and cleanliness of a small boutique hotel.
We have lived in the Lake District for most of our lives and are more than happy to help you plan walks, days out in the car, or sorties by boat, bus or bike. We know the nicest walks, the best views, the most peaceful places to go - and the best pubs!
The Lowfell bedrooms
Although we have a total of eight bedrooms, Lowfell is our home and we prefer to keep things a bit more exclusive, we therefore only offer B&B in three of our bedrooms - all three are light, sunny and quiet.
Topping the lot!
Wherever we go, Steve and I really look for a warm welcome, cleanliness and a big comfortable bed. We believe anything can be tackled as long as a good night's sleep is in the offing. Our six foot beds are huge and comfortable, with tempur mattress toppers, feather toppers on top of those, and top notch mattress covers to top the lot! Our bed linen is fine percale, our pillows pure down, our duvets are 4.5 tog silk for the summer and 6 tog pure down in the winter (you'd be surprised how little warmth you need on top, with a plethora of cosy comfort underneath!). We do, though, have extra layers available just in case you happen to be a chilly sort of a bod.
All our guest rooms are en-suite, with lovely soap and shower gel from "The Bath House", large fluffy dressing gowns and towels, 20 inch flat screen television and DVD player, hair dryer, tea and coffee making facilities, and a couple of comfortable chairs.
The Garden Room
Obviously this overlooks the garden, with a view towards the lake and fells. This light, sunny and pretty room has a huge and comfy six foot bed with half tester, an en-suite shower room with decent shower (glass door) good sized basin, and surprise! a loo, but no bath.
The Hideaway
This is "a four roomed suite" and is, as the name denotes, hidden away on the second floor of the house with its own staircase. It's pretty, light, sunny, peaceful and very private. There are two adjoining bedrooms here (closing door between) one with six foot bed and the other with two single beds, sleeping a maximum of four people - ideal for a couple, families, friends - or simply two or three ladies travelling together. There is a newly renovated en-suite sandstone bathroom (power shower over the bath) decent basin and loo, and a separate cosy sitting area with comfy chairs, kitchenette and fridge. (Please note - there are no cooking facilities but guests are welcome to bring chilled goodies to store in the fridge.)
2010 proved a year of great change for us here at Lowfell, as we decided to break the mould and offer a much lighter, simpler, healthier, but equally delicious, continental breakfast. We honestly thought that all our lovely guests - old and new - would desert us in favour of hostelries offering the cooked affairs, but guess what? We're as busy as ever!
Breakfast is usually served round our huge oak table in the dining room overlooking the garden, sometimes in the kitchen by |
