In the 1800s, local farmers tethered their horses to the fence of the pub while they popped inside for a drink. Back then there was barely enough room for four tables. These days, guests can enjoy much more spacious surroundings, which combine all the rustic charms of the original old English inn together with plenty of 21 st century comforts.
Upstairs there are 16 modern rooms while the pub, among the cosiest around, is the perfect spot to enjoy a few heart-warming drinks and some fresh, seasonally inspired food.
You'll find the village near Aston Clinton and Aylesbury , just down the road from the renaissance-style splendour of Waddesdon Manor. Nearby, you can venture into the hills along the famous Icknield Way or relive the glories of the age of steam at Buckinghamshire Railway Centre.

If you want something more informal, The Old Spring public house on Chesterton road offers good quality Pub food and some fine real ales, all at reasonable prices. Across the river a short walk from The Old Spring is The Fort Saint George, a quaint old English pub well over 100 years old, and also offering real ales and quality food. Large open fires in the winter in 2 of the 3 bars. If you want something a little different, then The Portland Arms at the city end of Milton road, offers good food, an excellent selection of real ales, and live music on most nights. Our seasonal traditional English menus encompass only the finest ingredients, sourced, where possible, from local suppliers, prepared with passion and served with pride. The restaurant boasts a private dining area to seat up to 18 in privacy, style and comfort and a conservatory where overnight guests take breakfast.
In addition we have a thriving and expanding outside catering business specialising in weddings, parties, anniversaries and corporate events. We are principal caterers to Tattersalls and accredited caterers to the University of Cambridge, regularly providing high end catering for the Vice Chancellor amongst others.
