Church Street, Tewkesbury

Rooms from 39.00 GBP
This well-known landmark is an amalgamation of historic buildings dating from the 15th and 18th centuries, known as a number of names, including The Crown during King Henry VIII's reign. However, eventually it was named The Royal Hop Pole when Queen Mary stayed in 1937 and gave it the official 'Royal'. Charles Dickens even mentions The Royal Hop Pole in his book, The Pickwick Papers. Other interesting information and pictures are located all over the hotel, including information on how the medieval hall was discovered, when the hotel was recently refurbished. The Royal Hop Pole has its own beautiful garden which leads to the banks of The River; there you can see picturesque views of the surrounding countryside and the Malvern Hills. Take a two minute walk to marvel at the impressive Abbey or a stroll to the river where you can enjoy a boat trip. Catch a movie or play at The Roses theatre with friends or take a swim at the local swimming pool. With it's central location, clean facilities and excellent value for money it is no wonder The Royal Hop Pole continues to be a popular hotel today. Why don't you stay for breakfast? Breakfast times are 7am - 12pm on weekdays and 8am -12pm on weekends. Dinner is served until 10pm 7 days a week. Tewkesbury itself is an ancient settlement, at the meeting point of the rivers Severn and Avon, providing one of the best medieval townscapes in England today. The town and surrounding area are steeped in history, with a wealth of historic buildings and attractions to discover, as well as some simply stunning river valley countryside, making the Cotswolds and Severn Vale one of the best-loved regions. Tewkesbury remains a popular destination for the traveller and visitor. Situated at the southernmost point of the Midlands inland waterways system and being the first non tidal water up the river Severn, the town is a natural stopping place for water craft. With good sporting facilities and plenty of heritage to display, Tewkesbury bids you a pause and enjoy this historic town.

Bodkin House Hotel, Badminton

Bodkin House Hotel
Petty France, Badminton

Rooms from 65.00 GBP
A warm and friendly welcome will always greet you at this picturesque seventeenth century former coaching inn. On the edge of the beautiful Cotswolds and conveniently located between the M4 and M5 motorways, the position offers close proximity to Bath, Bristol, the Cotswolds and many other local attractions. The earliest parts of Bodkin House have their origins in a 12th century priory which was destroyed by Henry VIII during the dissolution of the monasteries. The present building began life in the mid 17th century as a coaching inn serving the Bath-Gloucester route and was extended and upgraded in the Georgian period. Many famous people have visited the establishment including Jane Austen who came as a child and later mentioned her visits in her novel Northanger Abbey. Over the past four years, the current owners have undertaken extensive refurbishment to ensure that the property’s unique character is complemented by the convenience and reliability of modern amenities. Our rooms offer a blend of country traditions with modern en-suite facilities, each with their own unique character and named after famous female writers. There are eleven rooms each with private bath or shower facilities, direct dial telephone, tea & coffee making, hair dryer, Sky TV and internet connection. A full laundry, dry cleaning and ironing service is available if required. Our rates include an individually prepared full English breakfast which is taken in the new conservatory or, in summer, on an adjacent patio terrace. One of the delights of a visit is to dine in the Bodkin restaurant. This has been completely remodelled and air conditioned to provide a relaxing atmosphere where the emphasis is on informality. We also take great pride in the excellence of our food and the quality of our service. We strive to serve dishes based on the best local and organic ingredients with regular ‘specials’ and a range of vegetarian options. Your food is complemented by an extensive wine list. We’ve changed more than just the food. The bar has been refurnished with oak and pine to provide informal eating adjacent to the grounds and children’s play area. The conservatory offers a brasserie style area for teas coffees and business oriented meals. The restaurant now also incorporates a dedicated lounge area for guests.
