We are located in North Wales, in the picturesque Ceiriog valley with easy access to the Offa’s Dyke National Trail and are also close to Llangollen and Wrexham. The Hotel was originally built in 1690, during the reign of James 1st of England, who was also James IV of Scotland and is one of the oldest hotels in Wales. It is situated on the border between England and Wales and is a prime location for the discerning traveller. Close to historic Chirk Castle built by Edward I with its beautiful Gardens and Chirk’s own dual aqueduct built by the famous Thomas Telford and viaduct built by Henry Robertson the Hand Hotel is in a prime location. The more famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct which has been recently designated a World Heritage Site is also close to the hotel. Again built by Thomas Telford, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, or ‘the stream in the sky’ as it is sometimes called, was completed in 1801 and stands at an impressive 126 feet tall and 1007 feet long, with stunning views over the Ceiriog Valley and is still acknowledged as a major feat of engineering today. Activities, whether it be rambling, cycling, canoeing or fishing you’re interested in, you’ll find that there’s something for everyone here. You may want to visit John “Iron Mad” Wilkinson’s well known Bersham Ironworks or perhaps meet “Brymbo man”, Wrexham’s oldest resident at 3,500 years old, at Wrexham County Borough Museum. You will find us in a very tranquil part of Chester with an equally relaxed atmosphere inside the pub for dining and drinking. Now a contemporary styled venue, we are mostly open plan with a sumptuous colour scheme of dark aubergine, mushroom colours and rich browns. There are fireplaces surrounded by leather tub chairs, big high backed chairs and a sofa, so you can relax alone or with friends. A selection of our champagnes and wines can be chosen from our feature wine wall. Good food is served every day, from a varied main menu with many offers on a selection of favourites. A Sunday Carvery, with a selection of roasts to choose from, is now available and must be tried.
