The more famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct which has been recently designated a World Heritage Site is also close to the hotel. Again built by Thomas Telford, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, or ‘the stream in the sky’ as it is sometimes called, was completed in 1801 and stands at an impressive 126 feet tall and 1007 feet long, with stunning views over the Ceiriog Valley and is still acknowledged as a major feat of engineering today. Activities, whether it be rambling, cycling, canoeing or fishing you’re interested in, you’ll find that there’s something for everyone here. You may want to visit John “Iron Mad” Wilkinson’s well known Bersham Ironworks or perhaps meet “Brymbo man”, Wrexham’s oldest resident at 3,500 years old, at Wrexham County Borough Museum. Then again maybe watching a football match or going on a shopping spree is more your thing, either way no matter what your interests are you’ll always find something to do during your stay at the Hand Hotel.
