Crown Inn, Chislehurst

Crown Inn
School Road, Chislehurst

Rooms from 80.00 GBP
The Crown Inn - 7 new en-suite bedrooms, new bar and restaurant and extensive new menu the Crown is well worth a visit. Close to London. The Crown is situated on the attractive large wooded Chislehurst Common. The name Chislehurst is derived from the Anglo-Saxon words 'coesal' and 'hyrsk' meaning 'gravel wood'. If you enjoy walking then Chislehurst is on one of the Green Chain Routes from Mottingham Lane to Beckenham Park (4 1/2 miles) The Crown is very close to the well known Chislehurst Caves which extend for nearly 20 miles and date back over 4,000 years. The caves became more widely known after their use during the Second World War as an air raid shelter, not only for the locals but also for over 10,000 Londoners who travelled to the caves each night by special train. This was so well organised that people could pay 1d per night for a bunk and there was also a cinema, church and hospital for them to use during their time underground.

Clarendon Hotel, Blackheath

Clarendon Hotel
8/16 Montpelier Row, Blackheath

Rooms from 80.00 GBP
Georgian building overlooking Blackheath. Ideal for business and pleasure. In the eighteenth century when the Clarendon Hotel was built, Greenwich was one of the most powerful places in the world. Now as public interest is drawn here for the new millennium, the hotel provides the visitor with an ideal base to visit the famous National Heritage sites, just a short distance away across the green of Blackheath. The Old Royal Observatory, in Greenwich Park, Wren's Royal Naval College (now Greenwich University), Inigo Jones' Queen's House, the National Maritime Museum and Cutty Sark, lend some balance to the ultra modernism of the Millennium Dome, Excel Exhibition Centre, Canary Wharf and the Thames Barrier.
