Rooms from 40.00 GBP | As a small family ran country hotel, we like our customers to think of March Bank as a home from home. It’s this friendly, unpretentious approach that’s made us such a success with locals and visitors alike over the past 20 years.
The property itself was built in 1850 as a shooting lodge for the Graham estate. Set on a hilltop in five acres of what was once known as the debatable lands, an area that both Scotland and England claimed as their own, the views of the surrounding lands are quite spectacular. Thanks to our great location, March Bank also makes the ideal base for anyone wanting to explore the many historic and natural highlights of Cumbria and the Scottish Borders.
Of course you may just want to visit March Bank for a meal, and who can blame you? We take an incredible pride in the dishes we serve. With only the best local produce on offer, including our specialities, game and smoked salmon, every mouthful is worth savouring. What’s more, our meals are great value for money.
The walls of our bar are filled with artworks from renowned local artists, and there’s simply no better place to relax and enjoy a bottle of fine wine, or a dram of malt whiskey.
We wouldn’t call March Bank a home from home if we couldn’t give you somewhere to spend the night. So you can take your pick from six comfortable ensuite bedrooms, or choose to stay in your very own bothy. Then the following morning you can start the day in the best way possible – with a delicious cooked breakfast.
If you’re thinking of getting married in the near future, and are still searching for the perfect setting for your wedding celebrations, look no further than March Bank. On your big day, our hotel can be exclusively yours.
So whether you want to get away from it all for a few nights, treat yourself to a delicious meal, or are looking for a romantic location for your wedding party, we can offer you the perfect solution.
Hope to see you at March Bank soon. |

Rooms from 85.00 GBP | Hill on the Wall is a unique country retreat near Hadrian's Wall with more than a touch of luxury. Somewhere to relax, unwind and recharge. So much more than a bed and breakfast, we are graded by Visit Britain as 5 Star Gold . Rest assured that as a guest of ours you will experience the best of hospitality within the luxury and comfort of a private country house atmosphere...
Stylish yet practical and comfortable featuring accommodation of exceptional style and luxury. A commitment to quality with a personal touch.
In an outstanding hilltop location overlooking the Irthing Valley and just 300 yards from the Hadrian's Wall National Trail at Birdoswald in Cumbria, this listed 16th century fortified farmhouse, or 'bastle', has three bed and breakfast guest rooms available.
All bedrooms are spacious and ensuite or with a private bathroom and Wi-Fi Internet .
There is a comfortable lounge and library for guests.
With 1 acre of gardens and ample parking we provide comfort and a warm welcome for all who visit this historic and beautiful Scottish Borders area on the edge of Northumberland.
Hill on the Wall is what it says - almost exactly on the famous Roman Wall built nearly 2000 years ago - about 300 yards walk actually. Step outside our front door onto the terrace and gardens and immediately you are amongst some of the most breathtaking natural surroundings in the country.
Located on the border of Cumbria and Northumberland, we are ideally situated for visiting Hadrian's Wall, historic Carlisle and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (ANOB).
A bit of history about the house...An Act of Parliament in 1555 made it compulsory for everyone living in the twenty mile wide Border Zone to build their own defences against reivers and cross-border raiders. Not everyone complied but the owners of 'The Hill' did. In 1595 this 'bastle' was built and while it has all the comforts of the 21st century, its original characteristics have been tastefully retained.
When you have had enough of the hustle and bustle of the busier tourist spots, mark the end of a perfect day by unwinding back at Hill on the Wall with tea and home made cake in the garden and watch the sunset over the North Pennines and the Lakeland fells beyond.
Luxurious accommodation served by Elaine and Dick who love their job and do it uncompromisingly well! We are open most of the year from 1st March to 30th November so any time spent with us will be remembered for time spent somewhere very special indeed.
A commitment to quality with a personal touch. We look forward to welcoming you to our home. |
