Set in the chocolate box village of Painswick, with easy access to the nearby towns of Cheltenham, Cirencester and Gloucester and only 40 minutes from the heritage city of Bath. Resting on an ancient Roman site, the 18th Century classical mansion is a spectacular example of a late Palladian house which has been altered over the decades by a variety of architects including arts and crafts impresario Detmar Blow. Ideally located whether you are attending the multitude of festivals, polo matches and horse racing in the area or planning to escape the city, relax and enjoy the Cotswolds scenery. Painswick is quite often referred to as the Queen of the Cotswolds due to its fine buildings of pale grey limestone. These are a reflection of the town's former prosperity during 300 years of activity in the cloth industry. The town is famed for the St. Mary's Church with its 99 yew trees which were planted around 1792. It is said that every time a hundredth tree is planted it dies. Painswick is a town that contains many notable houses built in the prosperous seventeenth century and has lots of little streets to explore and quaint shops to discover. On the outskirts of the town the well known Rococo Gardens can be found in a hidden 6 acre valley. The gardens are the last sole survivor from the brief early 18th century period of English Rococo Garden design. Indulge your culinary tastes in the two AA rosette restaurant which sprawls the ground floor of the main building. Organic and local ingredients are key to the contemporary menu and complimented by internationally sourced wines, spirits, and champagnes. Visitors can enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon tea in our 88Room restaurant or outside on the terrace with views over the Cotswolds Hills. The intimate bar provides guests with an ideal setting to enjoy our signature cocktails or a pre/post meal drink. For hotel residents there is also a Private Lounge with balcony and Library to relax in whilst sampling our signature 88 tea with homemade scones, sandwiches, fruit, coffee and tea. The restaurant can be hired for special occasions with menus designed personally by our Head Chef to cater to the most discerning of tastes. The 17 rooms are luxuriously designed with breathtaking views across the Cotswold Hills. Many rooms boast a different theme including limited edition Leigh Bowery inspired wallpaper. Meanwhile, photo artist David Hiscock has worked on capturing the grounds and exterior of the hotel, creating unique abstract images which feature throughout the hotel in various art forms. All rooms provide guests with remote controlled plasma TVs and en-suite bathrooms with complimentary Molton Brown bathroom goodies.
