| | | The foundation stone for the building itself was laid in 1890, and the house took some five years to complete. It was first opened as a hotel in 1930. However, there are artefacts in the hotel, which date back as far as 1664. Large imposing rooms, oak-panelled and mellowed with the years, a collection of fine oil paintings, ornate carved fireplaces and the magnificent oak staircase tell their own story of a hotel rich in history and character.
