| | | Harcourt House, circa 1840, was built after Queen Victoria came to the throne. The area around where she lived as Queen, Buckingham Palace, was developed from marshland to provide a residential area, known as Belgravia, so that the elite were able to live near to their the sovereign.
Harcourt House has been a 'guest house' since the late 1880's, where records show it was a gentleman's lodgings. The name Harcourt was derived from a prominent member of parliament, at that time. Since then, the area has become synonymous with the rich and famous.
