Buxton

Buxton is probably the Peak District’s best-known spa town, and, as such, has been a hugely popular tourist destination for centuries.

Buxton is located in the heart of Derbyshire, mid-way between Sheffield and Manchester, and is consequently well provided with transport links. This bustling, vibrant town makes an ideal choice for both invigorating and tranquil breaks, with plenty to offer its visitors.

Walkers, hikers and those with a love of green spaces flock to Buxton, and none are disappointed by the beautiful Pavilion Gardens. This Victorian park comprises 23 acres of lakes and flowerbeds and is home to a miniature railway that is consistently a huge hit with younger visitors.

The people of Buxton are rightly very proud of the breathtaking piece of architecture that is ‘The Dome’. This structure is 150 feet in diameter, and the largest unsupported dome in Britain, covering a complex of shops, cafes and study spaces for students of the University of Derby.

Buxton Opera House is another fine reason to visit this town. The Edwardian theatre presents approximately 450 performances every year, providing everything from musicals and dance shows to opera.
