On arrival, which was at 7am, I was greeted by the very friendly housekeeper and got checked in right away which was a bonus because I thought I may have had to come back later. She was very bubbly and even carried my rather heavy suitcase up 3 floors! I had booked a single room but was given an ensuite double room which was small but was well equipped with plenty of storage i.e. wardrobe chest of drawers etc. There was a good supply of tea & coffee, which was replenished every day, and an LCD TV was also in the room. The bathroom was spotless and more than adequate and the view from my room window was quite stunning with views right out over the Forth. I don't eat breakfast so I can't comment on the food and I didn't drink at the bar either but they have a friendly staff and no one bothers you. All in all I was very pleased with my stay at the Ellwyn in fact I tried to book again as I am coming back to the UK. "

We enjoyed the breakfast, but the girl serving us wore jeans and trainers which is not a very good advert for any hotel. Hope these comments will be of use to you."

Portbello. We were in a family room which to be honest was very poor, the room itself was a good size and suitable for a family and the bathroom was fine.
But the beds and furniture were awful, old and falling to bits. The dressing
table was hanging off, lump of wood came off the windows when you tried to
open them and the aerial box for the TV was hanging off the wall and had not been
screwed back properly. Which was not really very good, especially if you have
toddlers in the room.
There were dirty marks all up the wall, and the whole room could of done
with a lick of paint.
It's a shame because the hotel is in a great position, has a nice bar and has
friendly staff.
I would suggest someone at your establishment vets this hotel as I would be
embarrassed to list this hotel on my website.

When I informed them that Infotel had confirmed with them that food would be available they apologised and gave me a menu to choose from. The food was cooked well and was nicely presented so on that side I have no complaints. I don`t know what it will be like to stay there in the future as I was informed that the hotel was changing hands in about two weeks.
