Skegness was first put on the map as a holiday resorts by the “Skegness is so bracing poster” which featured the jolly fisherman. The jolly fisherman is now a mascot for the town with many restaurants adopting its name and the Skegness Butlins incorporating them into their logo.

In 1996 the town had an extraterrestrial experience when police filmed a flashing light in the sky. After reporting it, RAF Neatishead base picked a blip up on radar but stated that it wasn’t an aircraft, as it had no transponder. It was later decided that the radar blip was the nearby Boston Stump and the flashing light was the planet Venus.
This incident coincided with the Westerndorf sighting where a Brazilian pilot claimed he monitored a UFO and flew round it until it flew of.
Skegness is probably most famous for being one of the few seaside resorts that still offers donkey rides. Skegness offers a great range of cheap hotels, budget accommodation and low cost B&Bs.
