Ely
Blessed with a beautiful 11th century cathedral, Ely is a lovely cathedral city in Cambridge, built on a chalk hill that was once an inaccessible island in the middle of the fens, and named after the eels found in the nearby River Ouse.
There are plenty of things to do in Ely, from visiting the cathedral and having a tour of the uniquely octagonal tower and gaining a lovely panoramic view of the city to the Oliver Cromwell museum housed in the aptly named Oliver Cromwell house, you’re offered a tour of the building and gain an insight on the history of the fens.
