Set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales the village of Malham nestles in the natural hollow of a valley head, surrounded by some of the finest limestone scenery in Britain.
The most impressive of these limestone features, created by the mid-craven fault, are the Cove and Gordale Scar, both of which are just a short walk from the village.
The village was founded in the period 670-800AD although in the surrounding fields and fells there are the remains of much older settlements dating as far back as 5000BC.
