Allt Yr Ynys (pronounced alt-ur-inis) is centred on a beautifully preserved, Mediaeval 16th Century manor house, set in the foothills of the majestic Black Mountains on the fringes of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
Allt Yr Ynys is an excellent base for a wide range of outdoor and indoor leisure and recreational pursuits centred on the hotels own indoor heated swimming pool, sauna and spa bath.
Conferences and weddings are a speciality. Our main conference and function suite seats up to 100 guests but greater numbers can be accommodated in marquees within the gardens. Civil Ceremonies can also be held in a number of rooms at Allt Yr Ynys, the most popular being our Jacobean panelled drawing room.
Lush lawned gardens lead down to the River Monnow fronting the hotel, which, together with the Elizabethan Knot Garden in the walled gardens at the rear of the hotel create the perfect setting for all sorts of parties and gatherings.
The Basics
Allt Yr Ynys Hotel stands on the fringes of the Brecon Beacons National Park, in the foothills of the majestic Black Mountains. It is centred on an elegant medieval 16th Century manor house, sited on land which for centuries was the ancestral home of the Cecil family, perhaps the most notable member of which was William - Lord Burleigh, Chief Minister to Queen Elizabeth I, who was portrayed recently in the film "Elizabeth" in the part played by Sir Richard Attenborough.
Many original features remain - including moulded ceilings, oak panelling and oak beams, and a 16th Century 4 poster bed in the master bedroom - but the house has been sympathetically adapted to provide all the modern comforts expected of a quality hotel. Old stables, cow sheds and barns have been converted to guest bedrooms, providing comfortable, spacious and well furnished en suite accommodation, many with views over the mountains and woodlands surrounding the hotel.
Travelling
About 15 miles south of Hereford and about 5 miles north of Abergavenny on the A465, there is a turn off to the west at the Old Pandy Inn, in Pandy, signposted to Longtown and Allt yr Ynys.
Follow this road under a rail bridge, past a caravan park and over a stone bridge. After about 300 yards, the road bends to the right and after about another 100 yards there is a right turn just before a large grey/green barn. The hotel is again signposted at this point to the right and after a further 400 yards, Allt Yr Ynys Hotel is on the right, just over a stone river bridge.
Wining and Dining
Fine dining is offered in our award winning restaurant, or on the Elizabethan Knot Garden terrace during the summer months.
Bar snack and light meals are served throughout the day.
Sports and Leisure
The hotel is an excellent base for a wide range of outdoor and indoor leisure and recreational pursuits centred on the hotel's own indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, and spa bath. Allt Yr Ynys boasts its own covered, state of the art clay pigeon shooting range with six electronically triggered traps simulating a variety of bird and animal flights. The range is in an attractive natural "arena", surrounded by high banks and trees. We can also offer river fishing from the hotel grounds on the Rivers Monnow and Honddu where trout and grayling abound. First class walking (the Offa's Dyke Pathway is only 600 yards away), horse-riding, horse racing, caving, cycling, and many other activities are also easily accessible, and the needs of golfers of all standards are more than satisfied by the variety of golf courses close to the hotel, with the nearest (Wern Ddu) only a few minutes drive away. Other courses in the area include Belmont, Abergavenny, The Rolls at Monmouth and Alice Springs at Usk.
