This award winning Guesthouse@Eskbank has undergone extensive upgrading and refurbishing work. Family friendly (Rathan House built 1852) had a new Bed and Breakfast wing completed in 2004. Ewan and Irene MacRae have added to the ambience of a grand old Scottish Mansion by building a new wing with new excellent standard bedrooms with deep pile Scotch wool carpet. Modern ensuite facilities, double glazed sash & case windows and excellent insulation. There is also a Luxury Eskbank and Morningside. The MacRaes have tried to ensure that The Guesthouse@Eskbank is a sleepy hollow - a place to De-stress.........certainly the Eskbank conservation area is a beautiful place.
The new build used traditional stonebuild to ensure no clash with the attractive, leafy Eskbank and Newbattle Abbey conservation area. Immaculate warm rooms with ensuite facilities and enjoy a traditional old fashioned Highland healthy breakfast in the grand dining room. You would also find a large and attractive, child secure, walled garden with a croquet lawn - so you can relax and de-stress while the kids let off their excess steam playing with Irene and Ewan's 3 Flatcoated Retrievers.
The holiday apartment has several parking spaces and is on a bus route to Edinburgh making it an excellent park and ride location. Edinburgh Centre is 18 mins by car or 22 mins by bus.
The apartment comprises the completely re-built wing of Rathan House, an 1850's mansion set in its own grounds. It was completed in 2004 and will suit those seeking luxury standards in their holiday accommodation.
The accommodation comprises:
King size double bedroom with en-suite double size high pressure shower, wc and whb. Plus a second en-suite with wc, whb and bidet.
Triple bedroom with en-suite high pressure shower, wc and whb.
Lounge with solid oak floor and two French windows giving access to the gardens and croquet lawn. The lounge also has a 3-seater sofa which converts to a sofa-bed, an en-suite shower, wc and whb, and a walk-in cupboard where suitcases and bedding can be stored during the day.
Dining Kitchen with solid oak floor and dining table for 8 (or 10 when extended). The kitchen is equipped to suit the really discerning person looking for home from home standards for cooking, and for washing and drying clothes.
High insulation standards together with double glazing and large gas Vaillant Combi Boiler ensure fabulous showers and central heating. It is a very warm apartment and has Victorian plaster cornices in the bedrooms, hall and lounge.
Set in the Eskbank & Newbattle Abbey leafy conservation area near Dalkeith and Bonnyrigg, you would find a 24 hr large supermarket within 600metres and 5 excellent restaurants even closer. It does offer an excellent base for those seeking a superior base prior to a Scottish Castle Wedding at Dalhousie Castle, Melville Castle, Oxenfoord Castle or Borthwick castle. Parents of Wisconsin students at Dalkeith Palace will also find this to be an excellent family home from home.
