The George Hotel is the oldest Inn in Bishops Stortford and the third oldest in Hertfordshire. Standing at the junction of North Street and Windhill, the George Hotel is first mentioned in 1417 but was probably built towards the end of the 14th Century. During the 15th century it was the court of Piggotts Manor.
Charles 1 dined at the George in 1629 and from the late 18th to the early 19th Century it served as the Excise Office for Bishops Stortford.
