The Crown and Mitre Hotel was built in 1905 on the site of the original Crown and Mitre Inn which dates back to before the Jacobite Rebellion of 1746. The Inn was demolished in 1902 to make way for the existing Hotel which took 3 years to build.
Ideally situated close to the historic sites of Carlisle, such as Carlisle Cathedral, Carlisle Castle, The Old Town Hall built entirely of sand stone, The Guildhall and Tullie House Museums. Local buses run daily to Hadrians Wall and the famous village of Gretna Green. Each of our 98 bedrooms has an en suite bathroom, remote control teletext television with satellite channels, radio direct dial telephone and tea and coffee making facilities. Many of our bedrooms have additional features such as a trouser press and hair dryer.
