Morar has seen little change in the past century, and is still a quiet sleepy village at the end of the Road to the Isles. The scenery is as unspoilt as it was when it inspired celebrated composer, Sir Arnold Bax (1883 - 1953), on his many summer stays in the hotel.
Morar has a rich Jacobite tradition, and it was through the district that the Young Pretender fled after the battle of Culloden in 1746. The Jacobite Lord Lovat was captured on the islands in Loch Morar before being taken to London for execution in the same year. Traditionally, Morar was at the centre of An Garbh Chriochan, the Roughbounds or the Highlands of the Highlands, but in 1901 the construction of the famed West Highland line was completed. Previously journeys to Morar took seven and a half hours by coach, with the introduction of the Steam train, the journey took only one and a half hours from Fort William. And today Fort William is just fifty minutes distant by road.
Rooms Sixteen of our twenty eight bedrooms enjoy breathtaking views over the Morar River estuary. Other rooms in the historic part of the building have views of the rugged Craig Mhor mountains and the steam train as it passes through Morar village.
All the rooms here in the Morar Hotel are ensuite and have hairdryers, welcome trays and individually controlled heating provided for the comfort of our guests.
Infants` bedding and cots are available though guests are requested to arrange these before arrival.

Morar Hotel`s restaurant boasts some of the most stunning views in the area. From the windows diners enjoy the changing moods of the Scottish scenery with a breathtaking panorama overlooking the Morar River estuary.
Our à la carte chefs prepare everything to order using only the freshest, finest ingredients and wherever possible using local and organic produce.
With the bustling fishing port of Mallaig only 3 miles away we are proud to offer a fresh daily fish special. Mallaig gained fame in the last century for its herring, and Mallaig kippers are still smoked in the traditional way for worldwide export.
Functions Morar Hotel is ideally situated for memorable celebrations; romantic anniversaries, weddings, birthdays and any other type of function that would benefit from our stunning Scottish Highland location.
We can cater for up to 80 seated guests in our dining room and up to 160 evening guests for your choice of entertainment. Buffet meals can also be arranged if appropriate.
