Hotel Description
  Description

The ancient Mackenzie's of Coul picked a wonderful situation for this classic Country house hotel, originally built in 1821 for Sir George Mackenzie as traditional hunting lodge, its stunning views over the Strathconon Valley and Achilty mountains beyond, eight acres of mature woodland, private nine hole pitch and putt and unique octagonal dining room make it an ideal venue for a quiet getaway, small wedding or a conference. Only 20 miles northwest of Inverness, you can easily cruise Loch Ness, visit Macbeth's Cawdor Castle, even sail to the Orkney Isles and still be back in time for dinner! Hotel check in is available from 3pm to 10.30pm; please contact the hotel directly to arrange a later check in.

Born and raised in the hotel business in the Highlands of Scotland but having spent the last ten years managing independently owned luxury hotels in America, it was always on my mind to return. After many extremely long, hot summers in the south east of America and the birth of our wee girls, Aurora and Liah, we began dreaming of life back in Scotland. On June 5th 2003, our dreams became a reality when we became the proud owners of Coul House Hotel. There are attractions and activities for everyone including the local Glen Ord and Glen Morangie whisky distilleries, fly fishing, clay pigeon shooting, stalking, rough hunts, world-class golf at either Nairn or Royal Dornoch and many other local golfing gems, hiking, biking, pony trekking and dolphin watching cruises.

Despite the plethora of ideas flooding through our heads on what to do first and how we can build on the success that the property has already recognized, our highest priority is to offer you our hospitality and assure you that our entire staff is committed to providing you with a memorable visit. Our restaurant looks to offer an exciting dining alternative. Contemporary cuisine utilising both local and international produce and ingredients allows us to offer a uniquely eclectic gourmet dining experience. Garry Kenley, our Executive Chef, spent the last six years working with me in America, winning many accolades and adding to his international experience. His menus reflect his own passion for modern fusion cuisine and his classical French apprenticeship. Coul House is the perfect place to base oneself to rediscover the romance and beauty of the highlands - certainly a destination where you should plan on staying for more than just a couple of nights.
